For lovers of all ages, The House Over-By is one of the most romantic places to stay in the Scottish Highlands and Islands. The six beautiful en suite bedrooms are a complete hideaway and a favourite place for honeymoon couples and those celebrating all kinds of special occasions.
Graded as 5-Star accommodation by both VisitScotland and the AA, these six junior suites are in a new building opened in 1999, just a few steps across the courtyard from The Three Chimneys Restaurant. Each has an open sea view and all are of exactly the same size and standard, furnished and equipped to a very high level, but with different colour schemes. Designed with every comfort in mind the interiors reflect the simplistic style of the old restaurant and the colours help to bring indoors, the scenic landscape visible from every window.
Breakfast is served in the Morning Room in The House Over-By, a light, airy room with stunning, panoramic views over Loch Dunvegan, west to The Minch and the mountains on the islands of Harris and North Uist in the Outer Hebrides. The Scottish buffet breakfast table is a speciality of The Three Chimneys, refreshingly different from the richer food and wine one may have sampled for dinner the evening before. Please take a look at our Breakfast Menu in the Menu section of The Restaurant Page.
There are additional “soft seating” areas inside and outside The House Over-By for our guests to enjoy. They may use these areas as they choose throughout the day and in the evenings before and after Dinner. They can sit and enjoy afternoon tea, order a drink, read the papers, explore the books on our shelves in Reception, or simply take-in the afternoon sunshine. The views from The House Over-By in the evenings are stunning, especially on the long summer nights, when the sky can change into many colours as the sun sets very slowly over the Western Isles. Exploring the seaview through the lens of the telescope in the Morning Room is a favourite past-time. And of course, there are wonderful, starlit night skies in winter time.
